What is going on with CheeseHeads String Cheese?

Our favorite string cheese is Frigo CheeseHeads. But sometimes the cheese is not stringy and doesn't taste good.

This week I noticed the cheese that was not stringy and didn't taste good did not have an expiration date stamped on the top of the cheese. The cheese that was good did have the stamp.

When you pull the bad cheese apart it is not stringy.

The good cheese has a lot more stringiness and tastes better.

In a comparison photo you can also see the bad cheese is a different color. Very strange because they are both from identical looking bags. But something is definitely different between the two versions.
