Measuring Cartoon Characters in Apples

Last year I learned two things I didn't know about Hello Kitty: 1) She is not a cat but is actually a little girl from London. 2) She is 5 apples tall. (My interest in Hello Kitty mainly started in relation to Hello Kitty Marshmallow candy.)

Then last week I read something about the Smurfs and noticed that they are described as being 3 apples tall. I always thought Smurfs were much smaller than that. A little more research showed that Smurfs are not actually 3 apples tall. They are Belgian and so in French they are described as "haut comme trois pommes." Literally "high like three apples." But that doesn't mean they are literally 3 apples tall.
