Local school has changed its mind about the importance of attendance?

From an email from the local high school:

As we move into a long weekend and quickly approach Spring Break, we would like to take a moment to emphasize the crucial role that regular school attendance plays in your child's education. Attendance is not only a legal requirement but also a fundamental component of their academic success and personal growth.

At xxxxxxxxxxx, we firmly believe that consistent attendance fosters a positive learning environment, promotes strong relationships between students and teachers, and enables students to develop essential life skills.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing the significance of regular school attendance and its impact on your child's educational journey. By working together, we can provide them with the best possible opportunities for growth, learning, and success.

Seems like a strange message to come from a highschool that closed school for about 6 months in 2020. Did they change their mind?
